Mac Cone Named CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for September
October 8, 2009 - Ottawa, Ontario – Jump Canada has named Mac Cone the CAVALOR 'Athlete of the Month' for September.
Cone of King City, ON, scored back-to-back victories in September with his Olympic partner Ole, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Sara Houstoun and Larry Evoy. The pair won the $50,000 Hagyard Medical Institute World Cup Grand Prix on Friday, September 18, at the CSI-W Kentucky National held in Lexington, KY.
Cone and Ole bested 48 entries to win the class by posting a double clear effort in a time of 36.21 seconds, edging out U.S. Olympian Marie Engle and Hidden Creek’s Campella.
Exactly one week later, Cone and Ole won the $25,000 Open Welcome at the CSI2*-W Canadian Show Jumping Tournament at the Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave, ON. Cone and Ole were the only combination to produce a double clear performance from a field of 32 starters.
“In August, Ole started to come back to his former self,” said Cone of Ole, who is returning to grand prix competition following a tendon injury sustained at the 2008 Olympic Games. “September was topped off by Ole’s big wins in the World Cup Qualifier in Kentucky and in the Open Welcome in Palgrave. I feel that he is in better shape now than he was during our 2008 season.
